The Business and Etiquette of Art Fairs
A Texas Chapter Webinar featuring Katja Zigerlig
The collector art market is a dynamic, global ecosystem driven by passion, prestige, and meaningful financial investment. While most high-net-worth collectors purchase art through galleries, art fairs serve as the great aggregators, bringing hundreds of galleries together in fast-paced environments where relationships are built and major buying decisions are made.
With more than 300 art fairs held worldwide each year, understanding how these events function, and how collectors behave within them, has become increasingly important for insurance and risk advisors.
Why do collectors attend art fairs?
Why do they purchase there?
And how can brokers better anticipate the timing, emotion, and risk considerations behind those decisions?
This session explores the art market as both an emotional and financial venture, offering practical insight into the strategy, psychology, and unwritten codes that shape collector behavior. Whether you actively advise art collectors or want to strengthen your understanding of this asset class, this program will help you add value beyond the policy.
In this session, you will learn how to:
- Understand the business dynamics of art fairs and galleries
- Visit an art fair with a clear, effective action plan
- Navigate the key “dos and don’ts” that influence collector and gallery relationships
