What We Stand For

Mission

The mission of the PRMA Diversity & Inclusion Team is to champion advocacy for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the high-net-worth insurance community and all communities that we serve. Through an active and inclusive membership, we look to recruit, develop, and advocate for diverse voices to educate and engage high-net-worth individuals on the value of personal risk management.

Vision

A welcoming, multicultural, and inclusive community of insurance professionals that encourages, supports, and celebrates diversity within the high net worth risk management and insurance community.

 

Objectives

  • Widen the net for recruiting from educational institutions in (or with) diverse communities.
  • Develop diverse leaders and professionals through mentorship, sponsorship, and training opportunities.
  • Raise awareness of and reduce the effects of unconscious bias through education and inclusive practices.
  • Market to diverse communities through agency development and risk management education.
  • Measure and develop benchmarks for diversity and inclusion in recruitment, training, promotion, and leadership representation within the industry.
  • Advocate for “allyship” in the workplace.
  • Be intentional about the inclusion of diverse members in PRMA curriculum delivery, committees, and board.

LaTanya Simmons, CPCU, CPRIA

Vice President

LaTanya Simmons, CPCU, CPRIA is Co-Chair of PRMA’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and brings more than 23 years of experience in the personal lines insurance industry. Her career spans underwriting, claims, agency leadership, and client service, including roles with Safeco Insurance, her family’s independent agency, and Marsh. LaTanya is a passionate advocate for education, mentorship, and early-career recruiting, connecting diverse students to opportunities in the risk management profession. A graduate of Spelman College, she holds the CPCU designation and the Chartered Private Risk and Insurance Advisor (CPRIA) certification.

Deon Hornsby

Deon Hornsby is the Underwriting Director for the Central Zone at Private Client Select, where he oversees underwriting growth, profitability, and broker relationships across a 23-state region representing more than $350 million in written premium. He works closely with product, service, and risk management teams to support strategic initiatives and execute underwriting strategy. With nearly 30 years of industry experience, Deon has held underwriting and distribution leadership roles at Private Client Select, Chubb, and State Farm. He currently co-leads Private Client Select’s Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and serves on PRMA’s Board of Directors as a co-leader of the DEI Team. Deon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Illinois Wesleyan University.

Deon Hornsby Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) CPRIA Scholarship

The Deon Hornsby DEI CPRIA Scholarship was created to further a core objective of PRMA — to develop diverse leaders and professionals through mentorship, sponsorship, and training opportunities. The scholarship provides an opportunity to increase the number of diverse CPRIA-credentialed individuals within the high-net-worth personal insurance industry.

 

Overview of the CPRIA Certification

The Chartered Private Risk and Insurance Advisor (CPRIA) certificate is the only certification program specifically developed for professionals in the high-net-worth industry. Endorsed by the Tobin Center for Executive Education of St. John’s University in conjunction with St. John’s School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science, CPRIA aims to broaden your knowledge, enable you to give better advice to clients, and provide specialized solutions to complex industry issues.

 

Scholarship Details

  • The scholarship allows a recipient to attain CPRIA certification at no charge.
  • Scholarship value: $1,830 ($2,190 with CE credits).
  • If selected, you will complete all six CPRIA segments starting with Segment I on August 31, 2026 and ending with Segment VI in August 2027.

Selection Criteria

  • Must be a PRMA member.
  • Must come from a diverse background — racially, culturally, gender, or disability.
  • Works full time for an insurance carrier, broker, agency, or service provider.
  • Dedicated to expanding knowledge and risk management expertise in the high-net-worth personal lines insurance industry.
  • Complete the full application process by July 17, 2026.

Application Process

  • Complete all questions in the CPRIA Scholarship application.
  • Attach one letter of recommendation from someone with first-hand knowledge of your work ethic, personal integrity, and why you are a great candidate.
 

Award Notification

The scholarship recipient will be chosen and notified the week of August 3.
