From Castles to Complex Homes:
Creative Insurance Solutions for Historic Properties
Castles may not be an everyday risk for advisors like us across the pond, but the lessons behind insuring them are surprisingly relevant.
In this Q&A session,
Nick Gavin-Powell of ARX Rural takes us inside the highly specialized world of historic estates, stately homes, and yes, even castles. From properties that have been in the same family for generations to homes with complex restoration needs and enormous upkeep demands, this is a corner of the insurance market that is as fascinating as it is niche. Nick will explore why traditional approaches often fall short, how concepts like first loss cover and estimated maximum loss come into play, and what makes these risks so difficult to place.
Along the way, attendees will get a peek behind the curtain at a uniquely British market, complete with dukes, legacy estates, and claims that are anything but garden-variety. This session also offers practical takeaways for brokers working with complex historic homes in the U.S., unusual high-net-worth properties, or clients who purchase significant estates in Europe. From creative coverage thinking to restoration realities and risk management improvements, this conversation will give members a fresh perspective on how to approach one-of-a-kind homes.
