Dan Preston on AI, Physical Underwriting & the Future of Risk Advice
What could AI mean for the way you help clients understand and protect their homes? Beyond streamlining everyday tasks, it could support more individualized risk assessments, better-informed mitigation decisions, and a broader role for the broker.
In this episode of Risk Ready, Dan Preston, Co-founder and CEO of Stand Insurance, joins host Bryant Kolle to discuss how AI and physical underwriting could reshape the broker, carrier, and client relationship. Before founding Stand, Dan served as CEO of Metromile, bringing a technology and carrier perspective to how risk is modeled and priced.
From physics-based modeling to 3D property simulations, Dan explains how advisors can help clients visualize risk and test changes that could make their homes more resilient, without stripping away the features that make a property worth owning. He also shares why better data could make carriers less differentiated, and how Stand is approaching the Florida hurricane market with a long-term view.
For those advising homeowners or placing complex property risks, this episode makes the case that technology could make the broker’s expertise and client relationships even more valuable.
